When I got these I was a little concerned that the stiff sole might be uncomfortable, but it was not a problem and as they have broken in the arch and general sole support have been excellent. These are not soft, flex-sole tennis shoe type footwear. The soles are heavily treaded and pretty hard, which is good for light hiking, extended walking, and general getting around. The fit with the laces, tongue and heel bumper are very good, with a cut-out to keep the heel tab from rubbing on your Achilles' tendon.The black and red theme sounds bolder than it actually looks -- the red is only visible as accents.
