I bought this as a gift for my son to help him understand how and how much he's moving during his soccer practices and games. He's also indicated that he'd like to run the 5K charity run/walk for my wife's cancer center next year, so this will help him train for that.The speed sensor was easy to attach to my son's soccer shoes (I did not get the ones with the pocket for it) and doesn't seem to impact his ability to kick the ball accurately with that foot. He doesn't even notice it during practice.Setting up the receiver and installing the software was simple (on Windows XP). We had a little trouble configuring the account, as it won't allow you to register a user as young as he is, so it's under my birthdate. It doesn't appear to use age to do any of it's calculations (for the "Football" exercise types, at least). It took a couple of tries for us to figure out how to assign data to a given practice or game, but once we got it figured out it is simple enough that he does it on his own (if only he'd remember not to leave his shoe on my desk, it would be perfect in that regard). The breakdown of distance, time walking/jogging/sprinting is good, but would benefit from having a user definable stride or height. It doesn't register a lot of sprint time for him, partly, I suspect, because his stride is so short and his top speed is not what it will be as he gets taller.My son was also hoping it would give him a report of his kicking power, but it does not do that. It has made him more aware of his top speed and how much he's running versus walking at practice and in games, which was my main intent.Read more ›
